Illustrated is an extremely scarce and interesting single sheet manuscript document appointing John Keshan as elected Alderman for the ward of St. Audoen’s in Dublin and is signed by Isaac Butt and by Daniel O’Connell himself in the few days prior to his appointment as the first Catholic Lord Mayor of Dublin since 1690.
Estimate: €400-600 in our upcoming History, Literature and Collectibles Auction, 16th June.
Several portraits by Seán Keating offer bidders a chance to snap-up an original artwork by an artist who has been making headline news this spring. Following the acclaimed publication by Dr Éimear O’Connor, demand for Keating’s work is likely to sore. Lots 33 to 36, guiding €1,500 to €5,000 represent his skill in the area of portraiture. Character is key to all four lots; the female sitters (one from the Bank of Ireland Collection) show the contrast of youth and old age while a portrait of Dan Breen nods to the artist’s interest in political life.
