COLLECTING THE RISING – IRISH INDEPENDENT & WHYTE’S

AN EXHIBITION, LECTURE AND VALUATION DAY at THE GRESHAM HOTEL
O’Connell Street, Dublin 1
 SUNDAY 31 JANUARY 2016

11am to 4pm: Exhibition including an original example of The Proclamation of The Irish Republic, Joseph Plunkett’s 1916 Rising Service medal, Pádraig Pearse’s newsletter War News No. 1,  letters and autographs from the leaders including Pearse, Connolly, MacDonagh and others, collection of newspapers published during the Rising, photographs and picture postcards of the fighting and aftermath, weapons and militaria from the period.

Whyte’s expert valuers – Ian Whyte and Stuart Purcell – will be on hand to identify and value – free of charge – items associated with the Rising, the War of Independence, and other historic events.

4pm to 5pm

An illustrated talk on the range and values of 1916 Rising and 1917-21 War of Independence collectibles by Ian Whyte, who has 50 years experience in collecting and dealing in these items.

Whyte’s will host a special auction of 1916 Rising and other Irish historical collectibles on Sunday 13 March next. Viewing will be at Whyte’s galleries, 38 Molesworth Street, 9-12 March, 10am to 5pm daily. The catalogue will be published on www.whyte.ie in late February.

Happy New Year from all at Whyte’s

2016 looks promising at Whyte’s with several hot ticket works
already consigned including wonderful examples by Patrick Hennessy (soon to be subject of a major exhibition at IMMA), Harry Kernoff, Paul Henry and international names such as Catalan artist Joan Miró (illustrated below. Est: €15,000-€20,000).

Whyte’s spring auction of Irish & International Art is scheduled for 29 FEBRUARY 2016.
